Sports Massage is the scientific manipulation and assessment of soft tissue or the prevention of injuries and therapeutic massage to help restore the normal functioning of the body following an injury.  The massage helps to maintain good physical condition and health, through mobilizing an improving muscle tone, promoting relaxation, stimulating circulation and producing therapeautic effects on all systems of the body.  With working with a Sports Therapist an athlete can work towards improving their sporting performance.

A Sports Massage Therapist will carry out your massage following a thorough confidential consultation and assessment.  The massage is tailored upon the needs of the client, unlike a conventional body massage which is based on a pre-set routine.  Your therapist has a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology which helps he/she to diagnose and assess injury/weak areas and put together a treatment that best suits you best.  The therapist can also help you put together an exercise regime to help you prepare for and excel in your chosen activity.

In a Sports Massage your therapist will employ a variety of techniques to get the best results for you.  They may use modalities such as Hot Paraffin Wax Treatment, Nova-sonic Treatments, Infra-red Lamp and Ice Treatment.

A post event massage takes place after a sporting event.  It can also be used as part of a rehabilitation programme to help an athlete recover from an injury.

In a post event massage the therapist will work on specific muscle groups that have been worked.  In the case of a marathon runner, they will benefit from a deep massage to soothe and give pain relief to aching muscles after prolonged use.  A post event massage can also help to reduce the affect of DOMs, a delayed onset muscle soreness - the aching feeling in your muscles the day after an event.  It is also during a post event massage that you can consult with a therapist to discuss stretches and strengthening exercises that will help your performance and recovery.

Sessions are booked for a minimum of one hour and can last up to two hours.
